ProStart® School-to-Career Program
What is the MRA Educational Foundation ProStart® School-to-Career Program?
The program is a partnership between the Mass. Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (MRAEF), the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF), and in cooperation with the Mass. Department of Education, Regional School-to-Career Partnership and high schools statewide.
The two-year program introduces students to concepts not found in more traditional programs topics such as customer relations, accounting, food cost controls, and marketing. Students are encouraged to explore the wide variety of careers found in the restaurant and foodservice industry through their internships. The program meets both state education and industry standards and prepares students for further study in postsecondary institutions or direct entrance into the foodservice industry.
Each year, the MRAEF hosts the Massachusetts ProStart Student Invitational, a culinary and restaurant management competition for ProStart student teams across the state. Competitions are judged by panels of educators, chefs, restaurateurs and food service industry professionals. Winning teams have the opportunity to compete nationally at the National ProStart Student Invitational, which is hosted by the NRAEF. Please see our press release and check out the video of the 2012 Massachusetts ProStart Student Invitational!
ProStart students are also eligible for MRAEF Scholarships awards, which are given annually to achieved culinary arts and hospitality students. Read more about our scholarship program here.
